In this lecture Mieville analyses the theoretical distinction between science fiction and fantasy and challenges the common assumption that science fiction is superior to fantasy. I found this very interesting because Mieville has pioneered a new subgenre of science fiction/fantasy called ‘New Weird’, which is described as urban fantasy written with science fiction rigor, and Perdidio Street Station was the novel that started off the New Weird subgenre.
